Sylvia Rhodes is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with Community Counseling Center. Sylvia’s passion for helping others was shaped in part during a cross-cultural experience where she witnessed first-hand the impact of social and political injustice. After returning to the States, she pursued a career in social work and received her Master of Social Work degree from Radford University. Her background includes working with children, adolescents, and adults in a variety of mental health community settings, including the school system and crisis stabilization. She believes that healing happens in relationships and therefore places high importance on building a safe and supportive therapeutic alliance with her clients. Her approach is client-centered and includes elements of cognitive behavior therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness. In her free time, she enjoys playing board games, traveling, and conversations around a fire in her backyard or over a meal with friends. She lives in Harrisonburg with her husband and three children.
